ERIKA
Hello! My name is Erika, and I am a graduate student at American University in Washington, D.C. I am working toward my Masters degree in Secondary Math Teaching. For as long as I can remember math has always been my favorite subject. I think of math like a puzzle; a puzzle just waiting for me to solve it. I enjoy the challenge, logic, and order involved in math. Throughout high school and college helping my friends with their math was fun for me -- so I knew becoming a math teacher is what I wanted to do. As a math teacher I'll be able to help students succeed and be able to do math everyday!
I have tutored many students and friends before, but never as a cyber-tutor. I was a little unsure how it would work, but it has been GREAT! Using the AOL Instant Messenger is simple and fast, and I can provide immediate feedback and support to the questions or problems the girls are having. As well as helping these girls with their math, I'm also getting to know about them and their interests. We often talk about such things as their school, career ideas, and why math is an important subject to study. The girls are very good at showing their appreciation and gratitude. Being a Color Math Pink cyber-tutor is a lot of fun.
